What is Casein Protein, and why are you putting it in protein cookies?

Im sure you’re asking yourself what the heck is casein and why is she putting it in a cookie?!

Casein is a dairy-based protein that is rich in BCAAs (branch chain amino acids) which help with muscle recovery. Casein is a slow digesting protein that takes anywhere from 3 to 4 hours to reach its peak of protein synthesis. Protein synthesis is the process of creating protein molecules in your body, after a depletion has occurred. Since casein protein is a slow digesting protein it is best consumed before bed or before a long day of being active with not much time to eat. This protein helps aid in fat loss because the slow release of amino acids makes you fuller longer and has a higher calcium content.

Protein Casein Cookies, a solid choice for a bedtime snack.

Which then leads to the highlight and purpose of these delicious cookies…YOU EAT THEM FOR DESERT BEFORE YOU GO TO SLEEP! If you’re anything like me you sneak one in during the day HAHA. This allows you to stay on that path of slow digesting protein to take advantage of all the benefits it has while still curbing your sweet tooth with an delicious quick and easy to bake recipe! This is a recipe the whole family will LOVE! It’s a great guilty pleasure to have in the house so you do not have to fight the temptation of eating the Oreos in the pantry that the kids won’t let you leave the grocery store without getting. You can eat 1 or 5 of these and not regret it after the fact.

What do you need?

This recipe is SO beyond easy to make!

You only need just a few ingredients! Casein Protein, Creamy peanut butter, chocolate chips, Baking Powder and Water! No milk, sugar or salt necessary! You can substitute the chocolate chips for whichever brand or type that you like! I use Sugar Free Dark Chocolate to mitigate the carbs being too high from added sugar and i just personally love Dark chocolate. Do keep in mind changing the chocolate chip cookies will adjust the calories per cookie!

How to Make!

To make the batter; Scoop in your Casein Protein and Baking Soda into the bowl, and then add in your Peanut Butter, then add chocolate chips! Once that is all in the bowl add your Water. Stir all of the ingredients together until you get a smooth consistency. You’ll notice the batter may get thick right away and if that is the case add more water and you’ll notice a significant difference in the consistency. Make sure you stir slowly or all of the liquid and casein will fly out of the bowl! Using a fork or a spoon scoop the dough onto a non stick sprayed parchment paper and make sure each scoop is about the same size. This will ensure the Casein Cookies are all the same size and end up cooking evenly. Rolling them into little balls is another way to ensure cooking is done evenly for the casein cookies. Place the cookies in the Oven preheated to 350 degree and bake for 15 minutes. It is natural for the Kasein cookies to spread out and get thin so do keep that in mind when placing the balls on the pan!

How to eat Casein cookies

These delicious Casein Cookies are best eaten at night as a bedtime snack!

I like to enjoy mine with a glass of milk, whether it be almond milk, whole milk or non fat; it is all based on your preference. I use the unsweetened vanilla almond milk because it is low in carbs and fat so it is perfect to keep it healthy as intended.
